In this program, Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra tackle two cornerstones of 20th-century Russian repertoire. Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3, with its late-Romantic language and melancholic undertones, finds in Ormandy a performer capable of balancing lyrical warmth and rhythmic incisiveness.
