In the Mosaics of Piazza Armerina, Semini draws on Respighi's cloistered stained glass windows. The evocation of figures in colored tesserae translates into a use of continually overlapping motifs, creating a rotating, cyclical effect that alludes to the eternity of art, always capable of dying and then being resurrected. For his part, Hindemith created "music for use": an art that is both laboratory and artisan, destined to live beyond the Romantic myth of transcendental inspiration.
