HERBERT von KARAJAN - STRAUSS: Also sprach Zarathustra - Don Juan - Tod und Verklärung ( PJLP3 )

The Vienna Philharmonic & Herbert von Karajan

A Pro-Ject Records Exclusive-Release!

Setting the Standard in Analogue Purity

Hallmark Recordings of the Vienna Philharmonic re-released by Pro-Ject Audio Systems: “Analog Only” sets the standard for sound quality.

The new vinyl edition of the Vienna Philharmonic on Pro-Ject Audio Systems was transferred directly from the original Deutsche Grammophon and Decca master tapes, without any intermediate digital processing. Heinz Lichtenegger, owner and mastermind behind Pro-Ject Audio Systems, is more than just a music enthusiast in his private life. Over the years, he has established himself as one of the most ardent international advocates of analog audio. His admiration for the Vienna Philharmonic led to the project of reissuing 12 legendary recordings of the world-famous orchestra from the analog era.

The Vienna Philharmonic's select recordings are known above all for their sonic fidelity: after all, Decca and later Deutsche Grammophon allowed only the finest recording engineers to work with this world-class orchestra. With this series, Pro-Ject Audio Systems intends to preserve these irreplaceable recordings in their original condition, as part of our cultural heritage for posterity.

Together with a team of specialists, Lichtenegger chose Herbert von Karajan for this Vienna Philharmonic LP. Between concerts, operas, tours, and recording sessions, the Vienna Philharmonic performed approximately 700 times with Herbert von Karajan, from 1934 until the conductor's death in 1989.

These Strauss symphonic poems are extraordinary examples of Karajan's extraordinary interpretive mastery. Recorded at Vienna's Sofiensäle in the late 1950s and early 1960s with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, they demonstrate nothing less than Karajan's exceptional sensitivity for tone, balance, and, above all, expressive depth.

As Lichtenegger states: "We produce the best possible quality for our customers, and while the original tapes continue to age, the vinyl records have been documenting their acoustic condition since 2019."
