The recording

Brother of the more famous Giovanni Battista, Giuseppe Sammartini was a virtuoso oboist and flautist and was regarded by his contemporaries as a composer on a par with Corelli and Geminiani. The success of these Sonatas was also encouraged by their specific scoring at a time when the transverse flute was becoming increasingly fashionable. This recording follows the principles of early-18th-century European articulation practice, including bisyllabic phonetics.
