CAMILLE | Alessia Martegiani, Massimiliano Coclite, Francesco Mariozzi (ARCLS025)

CAMILLE is a concept album inspired by the French sculptor Camille Claudel. Rather than a straightforward musical biography, it unfolds in eight tableaux: voice, piano and cello shape passion, fragility and creative tension through a chamber language poised between late Romanticism, Impressionism and contemporary sensibility.

Eight musical sculptures

The project grew from Alessia Martegiani’s encounter with the story of Camille Claudel and from Massimiliano Coclite’s writing. Words and music develop together: at times the text guides the composition; at others, sound generates the poetic image. Francesco Mariozzi completes the trio with a lyrical, narrative cello in constant dialogue with voice and piano.

With no drums or conventional rhythm section, the listener’s attention is drawn to the breathing of the phrases, the timbres and the relationship between words and sound. The eight tracks thus become eight “small musical sculptures”, each connected to an emotional stage of the story.

Recorded on 19 and 20 May 2018 at Cotton Lab Music Club in Ascoli Piceno. Mixed and mastered by Stefano Isola at Arcipelago Studio, Rome, between June and August 2018.

The story behind the album

The first impulse came from Alessia Martegiani’s meeting with actor and director Umberto Fabi, who introduced her to the artistic and human story of Camille Claudel. Alessia’s readings, texts and collected images became intertwined with Coclite’s compositional research. After a long interruption during the difficult period following the 2016 earthquakes, the project was resumed and completed with the production support of Rocco Patriarca and AudioRecords.
