When a new magazine is born...
Editorial
A new magazine dedicated to Hi-Fi. And why? Was it really necessary? Perhaps these are the questions coming to mind as you flip through this very first issue of Audiophile Hi-Fi. Well, from our perspective, we are convinced that it was necessary, if only for the fact that a new editorial product entering the landscape of a specific sector represents an enrichment, bringing something new and unique with it. And then, as far as we are specifically concerned, there is also another aspect: both the person writing this editorial, who is also the managing editor, and the publisher of Audiophile Hi-Fi, were active voices of one of the most important magazines in the sector, that Audiophile Sound created and passionately carried forward by Pierre Bolduc, who passed away recently, leaving a void in the hearts of audiophile enthusiasts.
Perhaps we are presumptuous, but also dreamers, if we state that our goal, with this new publication, is to continue to transmit a kind of legacy that deserves, in our opinion, to be carried forward (that's why the word Audiophile remains in the magazine's title...). So, we wanted to offer audiophiles a graphically innovative product, rich in new features, with in-depth columns, written by experts capable of explaining and "scrutinizing," highlighting the pros and cons of everything that will fall under our magnifying glass and giving a voice to those directly involved in the sector, as in the case of Emanuele Bassetti, the owner of Audioplus - Hi End, who is the subject of the interview published in this issue, while in the next issue we will discuss the extraordinary Wadax Studio System Player trio, distributed by the Marche-based entrepreneur.
In the name of quality that is also budget-conscious, thanks to Alfredo Di Pietro, we delve into the analysis of a product born from the ingenuity of Fabio Serblin and the fifty years of experience of Pier Giorgio Levorato, the Level Performance 3.0 stereo integrated amplifier. Enthusiasts of tube systems will find Andrea Bin's analysis of the Allnic H-5500 Phono Preamplifier particularly interesting, while for digital playback enthusiasts via PC, Giuseppe D'Agata explains how to correctly implement Roon Service on a mini-PC, in this case an ASUS NUC. Another product of absolute quality is represented by the cabling from La Sound, Paolo Marchetti's company: in this issue, I discuss a pair of RCA EVO1 unbalanced interconnect cables, which belong to the entry-level Deviank line (I should point out immediately, for those who don't know, that in the case of La Sound, the term entry-level really needs to be taken with a grain of salt), and a USB EVO1 cable that, instead, is part of the top-level Olympia. Additionally, Riccardo Mozzi presents a quality Chinese device, the Audio GD R8 HE MkIII DAC.
In the Audiophile Reflections section, two important contributions: one from Engineer Marco Manunta, who clarifies the operating classes of audio amplification circuits, and one from Riccardo Mozzi, who helps us understand the importance of the golden ratio even in the world of Hi-Fi. Accessories are no less fundamental, as demonstrated by two products from Sublima Audio Research, an excellent turntable mat and a highly effective liquid for cleaning our vinyl records, as well as another article by Riccardo Mozzi dealing with the Halifax, responsible for the fundamental acoustic treatment of listening environments. There are also news on Hi-Fi events spread throughout the Peninsula and the Classical, Jazz, and Rock review columns, where we highlight titles that combine artistic quality with the technical quality of the sound recording.
Speaking of sound recording, of course, the disc included with this issue is sure to delight audiophiles, as it is an Audiophile Album Test, with seven tracks extrapolated from two Velut Luna test discs.
Happy reading!
