GP Telemann, a musician with an inexhaustible creative streak and perhaps unmatched in terms of the breadth of his catalogue, belongs to the dawning phases of the Enlightenment. JM Böhm was skilled on the violin as well as on the flute and oboe; JF Fasch (1688-1758) was a very industrious craftsman of music although little inclined to publish his own work, which appeared posthumously. The embarrassment that some commentators feel about the music contained in the present album is due first of all to the little familiarity with this music, informed by a sonorous “individualism” and a systematic spirit, yes, but still little inclined to the iron regularities that perhaps only the late-Romantic school has imposed on the gaze on music.
