Paolo Tognon has dedicated himself with passion to the rediscovery of the performance practice and ancient repertoire of historical bassoons, perfecting himself with the best specialists.
He has performed throughout Europe, the United States and the Middle East, recording more than 120 discs, many of which as a soloist on the bassoon (sonatas by Merci, Telemann, Vivaldi, Platti) and with orchestra (concertos by Fasch and Graupner with the Capella Savaria conducted by P.Nèmeth and with the Filarmonici di Verona) and on the dulciana (virtuoso sonatas of the 17th century). He has received awards from recording critics including: the A.Vivaldi prize promoted by the Cini Foundation of Venice and in the German magazines: Alte Muzik Aktuell and Toccata.
In 2001, he published the first Italian article on the historical origins of the bassoon in the magazine Hortus Musicus.

He founded and coordinates the historical and organizational research work of: La Bande des Hautbois du Roy (creating a special for Amadeus), the Dulcian ensemble QUONIAM (also participating in RAI broadcasts) and Il Viaggio Musicale.
In his teaching activity he has won several important national and international competitions for professorships, which have allowed him to teach for prestigious institutions, including the departments of ancient music of the Conservatoire National Supèrior de Musique et de Dance in Paris, the Scuola di Musica Antica in Venice, at the Levi Foundation, and in the experimental courses of ancient music at the Conservatories of Padua, Vicenza and Livorno.
