Notes
"...It's not classical, it's not jazz..."
This phrase is a sort of mantra that I find myself repeating since I began the cultural adventure of Velut Luna about 20 years ago, when I try to describe many of my discographic productions.
Roberto Manuzzi's music not only fully supports this "mantra", but, if possible, highlights even more those peculiar characteristics of today's great music that I love and look for in the artists I decide to produce.
These are songs that breathe in the contemporary with full lungs: that is, they feed naturally on the thousand, and no longer a thousand, sources of inspiration that have filled the staves of music for centuries before us.
Roberto Manuzzi's "musical paintings" have a characteristic that makes them naturally lovable, namely the descriptive force and the emotional charge. Wisely, the composer from Ferrara does not renounce the melody, but knows how to support it with harmonies that are never banal, but not ostentatiously learned either.
It makes lightness its strength, just as only an impressionist sketch by Monet can do.
Walking towards the sky, Manuzzi's saxophones accompany the listener on a peaceful journey, which begins at sunset and continues into the night: a journey permeated with a rich vitality, expressive and cultured, but above all never cloyingly afflicted by academic vanities or, worse, by flattering banality.
Roberto Manuzzi
A versatile musician, saxophonist, composer, he was born in Rome and has lived in Ferrara for a long time. He is the author of soundtracks for theater and cinema, a teacher and experimenter of various contemporary musical languages. From 1979 to 1990 he worked continuously with the Friulian percussionist Andrea Centazzo as a soloist and arranger, collaborating with musicians such as Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi, Radu Malfatti, Albert Mangelsdorff, participating in some of the most important jazz festivals in Italy and abroad.
