Notes

Original compositions by Jeremy Norris. Fabio Franco flute, Jeremy Norris grand piano, Daniele Carnio double bass, Simone Gerardo drums.
24bit/88.2kHz digital recording was made “live-in-studio” at Areamagister Recording Studios- Yellow Hall, on February 2009.

Jeremy Norris’s two Petites Suites, recorded here for the first time, explore musical terrain familiar to us but rarely explored by contemporary composers. They are soundscapes that nestle comfortably between the thrilling extemporaneity of jazz and the confident mastery of classical music. Despite his dual heritage, Norris’s musical language is not without its surprises, brimming with jazz polyphony and virtuosic flourishes in his complex ensemble writing and solo cadences. Yet there is also immediacy and freshness in the suites’ melodies: they express themselves in a kind of catchiness, a quality Ennio Morricone attributes to music that reminds us of sounds and motifs perhaps heard elsewhere but impossible to identify. The suites are dedicated to two great musicians: Giusto Pio and Claude Bolling. Without their advice, their encouragement and above all the example of their compositions, the suites could not have been conceived, much less composed.
In short, an album of new music, which will not betray the expectations of those curious listeners, in search of cultured but pleasant music and above all capable of brilliantly overcoming the increasingly useless barriers placed between "genres".
The recording uses the consolidated PCM 24bit/88.2kHz recording technology, but above all, as usual for Velut Luna, it was made live, live-in-studio, in the fabulous Sala Gialla of the MagisterArea studio.
