24bit/88.2kHz original recording made at Magister Area Studios, Preganziol (Italy) on September 2009.
Michele Bonivento, pianist, multi-keyboardist, composer is an “omnivorous” and curious musician and defines himself as “a traveler of all music”. He dedicates much of his research to Afro-American music, necessarily exploring musical territories of different continents.
There are two souls that dwell in this artist: the "bluesy" one, with a special sensitivity in accompanying soloists and his ability to enhance the melody, and that of the arranger, who highlights the compositional aspect, far from stylistic clichés.
Nuances is a mirror of the experiences and encounters lived in recent years, each composition, evoking a precise emotional state, is the result of an extemporaneous creation, but in constant evolution. The songs that compose it have clear JAZZ, SOUL and GOSPEL influences, which play with more Mediterranean atmospheres.
If we really want to find some “artistic relatives” of Michele Bonivento, it comes naturally to think of Dave Grusin and his music that was celebrated in the 1980s by the American record label GRP.
Nuances was recorded with the help of some of the world's best soloists. So, in the closing credits, we have Edu Hebling on double bass and electric bass, Phil Mer on drums, Dudu Kwathe on percussion, Luca Bortoluzzi on drums again and Leo Di Angilla on percussion again; and then Luca Boscagin on electric guitar, James Thompson on tenor sax and flute, Marco Furio Forieri on baritone sax, Alvise Stiffoni on cello, Marco Pandolfi on harmonica. And last but not least, the two splendid voices of Kenn Bailey and Heloisa “Luma” Lourenco.
This project was recorded by Andrea Valfrè and mastered by Marco Lincetto at Areamagister Studios in Preganziol, in high digital resolution.
The sound is absolutely spectacular and enhances to the nth degree the thousand colors of this extraordinary musical project.
Finally, a special note for the packaging and graphics: for the first time Velut Luna offers a precious three-panel cardboard digipack box set, with an attached booklet, all in full color and embellished with the extraordinary photographs of Diego Landi. So this album can and must be considered a precious 360° art object.
