Adriano Lincetto and Silvio Omizzolo were two Italian composers who marked the musical history of the 20th century, both of whom passed away at the end of the century.
United by the fact that he was the second's first student, they later shared many common musical experiences, including the important role of directing the Cesare Pollini Conservatory of Music in Padua, at later times, and an intense concert activity as distinguished and esteemed pianists.
Silvio Omizzolo's Concerto for Cello, Strings and Piano is part of the great tradition of mid-20th century Central European music, finding illustrious references in composers such as Bartok and Stravinsky. Clearly structured in concert form, it offers the cello important opportunities for virtuosity.
The Suite “I Sogni di Gianò” by Adriano Lincetto is derived by the author himself from his original incidental music written in 1969 as the soundtrack to the one-act pantomime of the same name by Cornelia Mora Taboga. It is highly descriptive and evocative music, which bases its strength on an uninterrupted series of poignant melodies, permeated by the deepest and most cultured Italian tradition, but rich in “French” echoes, in homage to the Parisian setting of the story of the tramp Gianò, which takes place in a forgotten, timeless Paris.
Recorded in the usual live-in-studio format at the Auditorium Cesare Pollini in Padua, this album features the heartfelt performance of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto conducted by Fabio Framba, with Damiano Scarpa as soloist on the cello, Pierluigi Piran on the piano and Silvia Regazzo, who performs an important solo vocal cameo in the Suite I Sogni di Gianò.
