When Marco Lincetto proposed that I record something for the fifteenth anniversary of Velut Luna, I realized how deeply involved I am in this endeavor. I would have to make an effort to remember how many CDs I made for him, but it is easy for me to say that Velut Luna's first CD is "Lidjienko Smile", a duo with Paolo Birro and me. In this "Giant Moon" ideas, influences and atmospheres that are apparently very different from each other are concentrated. John Coltrane and Lester Young, together with Warne Marsh, Stan Getz and others, all have something in common, a kind of deep emotional intensity. My goal is simply to reach that intensity, like a nocturnal butterfly aiming for the Moon. Playing with Gibellini, Panagin and Facchinetti was an experience that was as surprising as ever, even if it almost sounds like a play on words. I thank them for having created this quartet with me.
