With this project, the independent record label Velut Luna continues to assert its role as an Italian leader in the production of records featuring great female jazz and blues performers, the Sophisticated Ladies of Velut Luna. Cheryl Porter is one of the few truly great jazz voices of today. Authoritative international critics have spoken of her as an interpreter capable of summarizing the great class of Sarah Vaughan with the flexibility and vocal power of Shirley Bassey. In this album, therefore, Cheryl Porter plays the role of ideal protagonist, able to guarantee that interpretative authority necessary to succeed in the ambitious intent of re-proposing the atmospheres and sounds of the great jazz albums with orchestra produced by Capitol Records and Columbia between the end of the '50s and the beginning of the '60s: unforgettable songs from the American songbook, such as Bewitched, You've changed, You don't know what love is, Smile, Someone to watch over me, and many others find in this album the original groove and passion that made them immortal pages of the musical culture of the '900. Fundamental in achieving the result are the original arrangements composed for the occasion by Massimo Parente. To recreate as much as possible the unique and original sound of Capitol records, the recording was carried out strictly live over the course of two days in the large Auditorium Pollini in Padua, expertly mixing the most sophisticated digital technology available today with "vintage" microphones and analogue valve stages.
