From the liner notes by Franco Ceci Colpis
Dedicated to Fred Buscaglione, with a nice interlude of Neapolitan swing by friend and maestro Renato Carosone, Ciao Fred is an enjoyable, agile and engaging album. Without frills or frills of any kind, it is music made with taste and joy, and played with the heart. The Metronomes are three, and their music is a fiery and pulsating mix of swing, boogie and jumpin'jive. In short, cheerful music, the kind that makes you tap your foot and start laughing even if you don't understand the words because they are in English. Or you understand them, because you know English or because they are in Italian, and they are very sad. And you laugh anyway. Checco Michielin, a sumptuous vocalist with a tarry throat, is the charismatic leader of the group. He moves on stage like an alcoholic feline. He sings, screams, whistles, speaks, mumbles tangles of notes. He is the terror of the ladies in the first two rows. Carlo Piccoli, supreme pianist, accompanies the progress of his friend with his style, sometimes liquid, sometimes bouncy. He also whistles. And sings, in the chorus. Finally Stefano Fedato, the drummer, euphoric, unpredictable, champing at the bit, the group's train, always ready to impress the music of the evenings with the most daring speeds. He also whistles (before the start). And sings, in the chorus. The bass is completely missing. The bass line, they tell me, is given by the left hand of the piano, that is, by Carlo Piccoli.
