Notes
Classical-Contemporary: Original compositions by G. Gaslini. Orchestra and Choir of the Marrucino Theater - Chieti, Giorgio Gaslini conductor and pianist. 24bit/88.2Khz High Definition Digital Live Recording at Teatro Marrucino - Chieti, on February, 6th, 2007
"Today it is more difficult to write a song by the author than a symphony", Giorgio Gaslini said some time ago after having already written more than one hundred - recorded and published by this label -, perhaps precisely to convince himself that it was important not to lose his touch with the great classical orchestra. And so in the space of a few years, the elusive, neither frugal nor uniform, and constantly increasing author's catalogue has been enriched with a series of new symphonic-concert works: with or without piano, for one or more orchestras. The six diplomas obtained at the Milan Conservatory are recovered and proudly asserted, and a dialogue is reopened with "contemporary music", as it is defined in his books: that is, with his, more or less forced, academic education. The last four are gathered here.
In practice, listening to the music and leafing through the scores, neat and 'speaking', the temptation to force them into a stylistic jacket lasts a moment. The music that summarizes a recent portion of the never dormant creativity of the author opens, to use a home lexicon, on a repertoire that revives the ancient Gaslinian purpose of "total music": an expression of sounds that leaves no room for "experimentalism as an end in itself" nor for "presumptions of stylistic value" because it is dedicated to "loving and assuming the different musical expressions and at all levels of man". On the program we have three first performances (Blue Symphony from 2005, Moto velocetto perpetuo and Interno Intorno from 2006) and Porter Portrait for solo piano and orchestra (2001) baptized in Milan. This last score, which Gaslini in his dual role as pianist and conductor recreates in an electrifying way and which already from the title declares its musical substance, is the extraneous and revealing subject of the entire composition.
The recording was made with a sophisticated high-resolution multi-channel system, strictly live, in the Teatro Marrucino in Chieti: it will therefore be possible to hear throughout the performance a series of small noises and “breathings” of an attentive, but, thank God, alive, audience!!!
