Notes
X as in crossroads, a crossroads of moods, atmospheres, and genres. This year's annual rendezvous with Massimo Salvagnini, his saxophone, and his band features a more pronounced than usual encounter with Brazilian music, especially the rhythms and moods of bossa nova. What better marriage, then, than with the captivating voice of Patrizia Laquidara? "Amor em Paz" and "Fotografia," the second and penultimate tracks on the CD, are there to support this album as a linchpin, which then develops into moments that are also different, in which the leader's strong and distinctive personality emerges more than usual, accompanied by the usual talented Gibellini on guitar, Facchinetti on drums, and Panagin on double bass. And so X also represents the intersection of the leader's soft, persuasive soul with his more free, restless, and improvisational side. This time, Studio Magister has witnessed the creation of a true event: this album, recorded in just three hours, in a rigorous live-in-studio broadcast, truly offers a state-of-the-art sonic performance, thanks to which listening will guarantee satisfaction, for the attentive enthusiast, difficult to replace or imitate.
Booklet
Beautifully, tenderly, enchantingly played with great improvisation by MS and his group; a nice selection and music worth the enhanced recording. One of my very favourite all time sax recordings where the jazz=sheer pleasure! Same goes for "U". Alongside S.Getz, G.Coleman, P.Desmond, J.Henderson on my hifi shelf etc.
