RICHARD TUCKER – LEONTYNE PRICE – LEONARD WARREN
Orchestra and Chorus of the Rome Opera House – 1959
ARTURO BASILE
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This recording of Il Trovatore, recorded in 1959 in Rome, is very rare. It remains in the collective memory of the history of the recording. Leontyne Price recorded it again in Rome in the 1970s with Mehta and Karajan, but it never achieved the same power and freshness as our version. Richard Tucker plays the role of Manrico only in this version, and his Trovatore certainly made and still makes history. Leonard Warren, who recorded the opera with Bjoerling in 1952, remains one of the great Conte di Lunas of the twentieth century. While Rosalinf Ellias, along with Simionato and Cossotto, belongs to the to those interpreters who offer a modern, youthful, and passionate image of Azucna. Finally, Arturo Basile, who interprets Verdi with the concrete and accurate Italian tradition.
