THE YOUNG CLARA: EARLY PIANO WORKS
CLARA WIECK SCHUMANN
Sonata in G minor
4 Polonoises Op. 1
3 Romances Op. 11
Soirées Musicales Op. 6
Souvenir de Vienne (impromptu pour le piano) Op. 9
This album features some of Clara Schumann's most representative early works, from the Polonaises, Op. 1, to the Sonata in G minor. Here we discover the climate in which the young woman grew artistically, amidst bravura pianism, Chopinian influences (the Soirées Musicales, Op. 6), the almost obligatory homage to the Viennese tradition (the Souvenir de Vienne, Op. 9, dedicated to the Empress of Austria), and, equally obligatory, the experience of sonata form, which, along with the Romances, Op. 11, marks the transition to a second, more mature phase of her life and poetics.
ANGELA TIRINO, piano
Front cover: Gianmario Masala
