Paolo Tognon has passionately dedicated himself to rediscovering the performance practice and ancient repertoire of historical bassoons, perfecting his skills with the best specialists.
He has performed throughout Europe, the United States, and the Middle East, recording more than 120 albums, many of which in a solo role on bassoon (sonatas by Merci, Telemann, Vivaldi, Platti) and with orchestra (concertos by Fasch and Graupner with Capella Savaria directed by P.Nèmeth and with I Filarmonici di Verona) and on dulcian (virtuoso sonatas of the 17th century). He has received critical acclaim for his recordings, including: the A.Vivaldi prize promoted by the Cini Foundation of Venice and in the German magazines: Alte Muzik Aktuell and Toccata.
In 2001, he published the first Italian article on the historical origins of the bassoon in the journal Hortus Musicus.

He founded and coordinates the historical research and organizational work of: La Bande des Hautbois du Roy (creating a special for Amadeus), the dulcian ensemble QUONIAM (also participating in RAI broadcasts), and Il Viaggio Musicale.
His teaching activity has seen him win several important national and international professorship competitions, which have allowed him to teach for prestigious institutions, including the early music departments of the Conservatoire National Supèrior de Musique et de Dance in Paris, the School of Early Music in Venice at the Levi Foundation, and in the experimental early music courses at the Conservatories of Padua, Vicenza, and Livorno.
