Herbert Kegel approaches Dmitri Shostakovich's monumental Symphony No. 4 in C minor with an intense and dramatic interpretation, leading the MDR Symphony Orchestra. The work, suspended between symphonic grandeur and inner restlessness, comes alive with the vast and unpredictable first movement, which alternates overwhelming outbursts with ironic and unsettling passages. The central Moderato introduces a more rarefied atmosphere, where shadows intertwine with moments of fragile lyricism.
