Mario Rossi conducts the Turin Symphony Orchestra in an elegant and brilliant juxtaposition of two early 19th-century symphonic masterpieces. Schubert's Third Symphony, with its melodic freshness and lively rhythmic contrasts, reveals the Viennese composer's youthful inventiveness, highlighted by a careful reading of detail and the lyrical breadth of phrases. In Mendelssohn's celebrated Fourth Symphony, known as the "Italian Symphony," brilliant writing and thematic vitality blend with sunny, dance-like atmospheres, culminating in the energetic Saltarello finale. Rossi's interpretation combines formal precision and expressive momentum, offering a coherent and stylistically informed reading of both works.
