The maritime overture captures the roar of the waves around Sindbad's ship, while the orchestral colors become luminous and enveloping as they recount the adventures of the calendar prince. In the third movement, the intimate dialogue between strings and woodwinds evokes the complicity between the young lovers, and the Baghdad Festival explodes in a blaze of percussion and brass.
