Since the Musici made them known through a memorable recording (Ws 121, 134) in the early 1960s, The Four Seasons have become an evergreen in the international recording industry. All the most renowned chamber ensembles have attempted them and performed them publicly, confident of their unfailing success. In recent decades, with the rise of philological performance practice, the Four Seasons have become a favorite subject for experiments that have often completely distorted their meaning and character. Reconciling respect for ancient performance practice with a distinctly Italian sense of musicality, full of color, rhythm, and vitality, was the primary goal of this recording by the Oficina Musicum, which restores Vivaldi's masterpiece to us in all its dazzling joie de vivre, with a freshness and brilliance of accents that seem to make it a work never heard before.
