The Couperin family is credited with the success of harpsichord music. Louis's figure remained obscured for a long time, and some of his compositions resurfaced after his death; however, thanks to current musicological research, his image is being reevaluated. François le Grand, a key figure in the dynasty, is a different story. His compositional style revolves around his own motto: "I will confess in good faith that I prefer what moves me to what surprises me."
