Harry Belafonte - Belafonte At Carnegie Hall ( SPC6006 )

Speakers Corner - 2 LPs AUDIOPHILE PRESSING 180g

"Belafonte At Carnegie Hall" - Harry Belafonte (voc); Millard Thomas, Raphael Boguslav (g); Norman Keenan (b); Danny Barrajanos (perc) & orchestra conducted by Robert Corman

Performing at Carnegie Hall is undoubtedly the greatest ambition of any artist, regardless of their musical style. But it also represents a huge challenge, because on such an evening, "good" isn't enough. The artist isn't simply expected to perform at his usual high level: the evening must be exceptional. Harry Belafonte, a charismatic and experienced artist, has certainly succeeded in meeting these expectations, as evidenced by his current double album, which has remained a best-selling chart-topper for many years.
This performance is composed of three acts, so to speak: African-American atmospheres, Caribbean songs, and excursions into world music. Belafonte is in excellent form, celebrating a thrilling and lively festival of songs, including spontaneous comic interludes born from direct interaction with his captivated and enthusiastic audience. He is brilliantly supported by Bob Corman and his 47-piece orchestra, an ensemble that shrinks to a small group when the maestro raises his raspy voice. Needless to say, all the most beloved songs, like "Jamaica Farewell," "Day-O," and "Mama Look A Boo Boo," are present, making this Carnegie Hall event one of the most captivating live performances of all time, capturing the essence of the artist in his prime (All Music Guide). With this double album, you too can sit in the audience and enjoy this great event.
