Under the baton of Eugene Ormandy and with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Grand Canyon Suite comes to life through sound paintings of extraordinary vividness: from the vast expanse of the valleys to the fury of the storm, to the delicate nuances of the horizon at sunset.
With the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Grofé himself, the Aviation Suite evokes the wonder of vintage flight: the thrill of takeoff, the elegance of altitude, and the evocative landscapes seen from above intertwine in an instrumental tale as dynamic as it is poetic.
Again with the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Niagara Falls Suite celebrates the power of the falls: the roar of the waters, the legendary atmospheres and moments of romantic quiet follow one another in a continuum of dramatic force and suspended lyricism.
André Kostelanetz conducts the New York Philharmonic in the Mississippi Suite, an orchestral tribute to the great American river: the majesty of its flow, the folkloric atmospheres of old memories and the festive explosion of carnival are rendered with refined elegance.
Metropolis: A Blue Fantasy, performed by the Beau Hunsks Orchestra, blends jazz and orchestral elements to capture the urban energy and nocturnal allure of the big city in a surprising blend of color and rhythm.
In the Piano Concerto in D minor, the close dialogue between Jesús María Sanromá and the Rochester Symphony Orchestra highlights virtuosity and emotional intensity, between agile passages and moments of profound reflection.
“The Story of Atlantic Crossing,” narrated by Anton Dolin and Ethel Le Vane, combines acting and score with Grofé’s New Symphony Orchestra, transforming the historical narrative into an evocative and engaging multimedia experience.
