The collection presented in this first box set contains a selection of six quartets from different years. All reflect common general characteristics, but each develops its own unique characteristics. The variety of choices, the references to different traditions, the solutions and combinations, succinctly demonstrates how Donizetti conceived writing for quartet as a true compositional laboratory.

The sylloge proposed in this first album contains six quartets belonging to different years. Each of them has been composed on the basis of common formal characteristics, but develops its own peculiarities too. The variety of musical choices, the different traditions, solutions and combinations in these quartets show how Donizetti conceives the quartet form as a compositional workshop.
