Notes

CLASSICAL. Original compositions by J. S. Bach, G. F. Handel, W. A. Mozart, F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
Schola S. Rocco, Orchestra Barocca Archicembalo Ensemble conductor Francesco Erle.
24 bit/88.2 kHz recording made at Basilica di S. Felice Vicenza on December 19, 2009

We gladly leave the presentation of this spectacular live album for choir and large orchestra to Maestro Francesco Erle. The concert was recorded live for the Centenary Concerts of the Società del Quartetto di Vicenza at the Basilica di S.Felice on December 19, 2009.

"The truth is that we decided to record this concert with Marco Lincetto at the very last minute: we couldn't resist trying to capture the last in a very successful series of concerts (in Verona at S.Eufemia on the 14th, in Trento at S.Francesco Saverio on the 15th, in Innsbruck at the Cathedral on the 16th and in Bolzano at the Cathedral on December 17th, 2009) which had turned into a succession of evenings with a highly energetic performance atmosphere and that symbiotic empathy which so rarely develops between conductor, orchestra and choir. The previous summer, I had proposed a courageous program to Giorgio Meneghini, which represented the latest version of a simple but virtuous idea, the concerts that began many years earlier at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, and which the title "Choral Fireworks" summarized as a particular musicological act of faith: the writing of the greatest composers in laying down the strong colors of large choirs with orchestra was at the same time sufficient, on the one hand, to create programmatic unity and scientific interest, and on the other, an occasion for great enjoyment for an audience that found itself facing what, from the performers' point of view, was a sparkling marathon of virtuosity and very strong expressions. As can be seen from the list of pieces, in every respect I wanted to respect the liturgical property of the texts, and to crown the effort, I had also undertaken a personal, if one wants, even risky, endeavor: to prepare a scientifically correct orchestral version of the parts of the Te Deum most suitable for the concert, which the very young Mendelssohn had left written only for double choir and an incomplete basso continuo. The evening recorded on the album, having overcome the difficulties of heavy snowfall, turned out to be a photograph that we would only have bravely hoped to capture, warm in its colors, full of life and truth of phrases and sound, as only a truly live album can give. The decision to print the CD therefore came last, with the surprised and then convinced listening of this sound album by the artists, the organizers, and the record company. We now hope that the album, in addition to bringing you our warmest wishes, will meet with your approval, just as it met with great enthusiasm from the public in the churches and in newspaper reviews."
