BILL EVANS - The Bill Evans Album ( SPC30855 )
Speakers Corner - LP AUDIOPHILE PRESSING 180g
"The Bill Evans Album" - Bill Evans (p, el-p); Eddie Gomez (b); Marty Morrell (dr)
The multinational Columbia recorded and released only two LPs with pianist Bill Evans. This was a modest achievement considering the numerous concerts the new trio performed between 1969 and 1974. Along with Eddie Gomez, a phenomenal bass player, and drummer Marty Mortell, the three formed a solid and increasingly effective trio. Evans became interested in the possibilities offered by the Fender Rhodes piano and used it for the first time on "The Bill Evans Album."
The LP is notable for featuring only Evans's compositions: three previously recorded tracks and four new works. Of particular note is the melancholy "Two Lonely People," Evans's musical interpretation of a Carol Hall poem. "Sugar Plum" and "TTT" would remain in his repertoire until his final recordings. Unusual but highly praised because it begins with a purposeful introductory improvisation, this is the electric piano version of Evans's best-known composition, "Waltz For Debby."
Bill Evans took full advantage of Columbia Studio's excellent technical facilities, despite being just a small ensemble. This is why the seven tracks sound far better than most of the trio's live recordings. And as Bill Evans once said, it was with this trio that he was able to realize his musical ambitions.
This Speakers Corner LP has been remastered using only analog components, from the masters to the cutting head ( https://pure-analogue.com )
