Notes

Under the direction of Volker Wangenheim, the Beethovenhalle Orchestra accompanies Cristina Deutekom (soprano), Nicolai Gedda (tenor), and Hans Sotin (bass) in the evocative dramaturgy of Christus am Ölberge: Beethoven's score intertwines spiritual fervor and contemplative moments with orchestral outbursts of intense power. In the Mass in C major, Karl Richter leads the Munich Bach Orchestra and four soloists—Gundula Janowitz, Julia Hamari, Horst Laubenthal, and Ernst Gerold Schramm—in a sacred homage to classical rigor, where the balance between strings and voices highlights formal clarity and emotional warmth, conveying the liturgical structure with elegant depth and offering an immersive experience.
