SIR GEORG SOLTI
London Symphony Orchestra – London Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir
Original recordings: 1952-1958
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Between 1952 and 1958, Georg Solti recorded for Decca a series of works from the Hungarian repertoire that, at the time, was still difficult to find or even unreleased. These include works by Kodaly and Bartok, both of whom Solti was a faithful interpreter and continued to perform and record throughout his long career. These mono discs from the 1950s, even after so many years, retain intact the splendor of the great English label's "ffrr" series, which we have respected without adding any sonic artifice. In addition to the Hungarian repertoire, these two CDs also feature a splendid interpretation of a piece that has long been unobtainable: Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto, performed by Julius Katchen and conducted by Solti in London in 1958.
