Ashkenazy's long and complex discography, published entirely by Decca, includes several piano concertos that are either missing or difficult to find. This album brings together some rare and valuable recordings made during concerts in which the pianist performed. As for Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto, the edition presented here is the extremely rare one performed in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl, under the baton of William Steinberg.
