CLAUDIO RONCO – EMANUELA VOZZA
on period instruments
A student of Martin Berteau, founder of the French cello school, and older brother of Jean-Louis, the cellist credited with initiating the modern school, Jean-Pierre Duport was a key figure in the pre-Romantic European musical landscape. An exceptional virtuoso, after a successful concert career, he arrived in Berlin, where he became the royal music superintendent, meeting the greatest musicians of the era, including Mozart, who composed the famous Prussian Quartets for his cello, and Beethoven, who showcased his virtuosity with the two Sonatas, Op. 5. This recording brings together two sonatas from each of the four books for cello and bass, works that represent his entire life's musical output.
