Notes

“Chopin & Schumann” is one of the new recordings that Velut Luna will soon present as a world premiere. Behind the seemingly unremarkable title lies an album that offers several new developments. Two Italian musicians are the protagonists: double bassist Orazio Ferrari and pianist Marco Sanna perform, among other pieces, Frédéric Chopin's Sonata for Cello and Piano in G minor, Op. 65, and Robert Schumann's Adagio & Allegro in A-flat Major, Op. 70, two cornerstones of the cello repertoire. The novelty lies in the performance of these crucial chamber works in a new and unusual double bass format, yet faithful to the original; ambitious, yet respectful of the text. Ambitious, too, is its instrumental implications: performing these works on the double bass in the original key and at the same octave pitch, without resorting to artifice of any kind, represents the absolute novelty that this album aims to offer. A detailed booklet and the presence of “bonus tracks” complete this completely new project.
