Notes
24bit/48hKz recording made at MagisterAreaStudios, Preganziol on October 11 & 12, 2009/ March 31, 2011.
It is always difficult to talk about a new recording project by Oscar Del Barba in a few lines.
Because Oscar Del Barba is an incredibly rich author, who, like very few others today, manages to synthesize a large number of cultured references to the entire history of music over at least the last 300 years.
Culture and academic preparation (diploma in piano and then in composition), extensive experience in the world of jazz, a strong love for the music of the "south of the world," particularly South America: this and much more is Oscar Del Barba.
If we absolutely had to give this album a "genre" definition, we could undoubtedly speak of "tango and surroundings"... It is also worth remembering that Oscar, in the album booklet, thanks, among others: Astor (Piazzolla), Igor (Stravinsky), Bela (Bartok), Claude (Debussy), Johann Sebastian (Bach)...
Accompanied by a chamber group of musicians of absolute value, all endowed with the characteristic of "interpretive versatility" – Salvatore Maiore, double bass and cello, Maria Vicentini, violin, Fausto Beccalossi, accordion, Gianni Alberti, sax and clarinet and the extraordinary voice of Franca Masu – Del Barba delivers to history 8 musical portraits, where the descriptive power becomes, from time to time, evocative of situations and emotions, moving nonchalantly between Buenos Aires and Madrid, also wandering a bit through Central Europe...
Last but not least, the beautiful original lyrics written specifically by Alan Zamboni are worth highlighting.
This is an album that takes you by the hand at track 1 and doesn't let go until the last note.
Recorded live, as usual, in the splendid natural acoustics of the MagisterArea studios in Preganziol by Marco Lincetto, it also offers an engaging, enveloping, and absolutely natural sound on the recording front. As it could not be otherwise with the music of Oscar Del Barba.
